Session Title:
Ergonomics Principles and Strategies for Success
Presenter:
Kevin Costello, CPE, President, United States Ergonomics
Target Audience:
Individuals responsible for the design and/or injury control of industrial manufacturing or assembly operations. Including plant managers, process engineers, manufacturing engineers, product designers, EH&S personnel and lean leaders. Vendors or suppliers of industrial equipment would also benefit from the definition of ergonomic workstation and product specifications.
Abstract:
This session introduces quantitative approaches for assessing the ergonomics efficiency of work methods, equipment design, tools and employee techniques.
The objective is to achieve measurable gains in production efficiency while reducing ergonomics risks. It is intended to work well within the structure of lean manufacturing and six-sigma programs. The primary focus involves advanced methods for quantifying workplace demands and establishing acceptable thresholds. The development of ergonomics specifications for workstations, tools and equipment are covered.
Learning Objectives:
Attendees will leave this session with:
- Familiarity with the techniques and methods available to objectively measure ergonomics efficiency in the workplace
- Familiarity with the guidelines and thresholds that product, process and ergonomics engineers can use to assess tools, equipment, workstations and employee technique.
- Reference materials, handout
