Measurement Based Methods in Ergonomic Product Design
Kevin Costello, BS, CPE, President
United States Ergonomics
Intermediate / Advanced
WS10
Tuesday November 28th
1:30 PM – 5:00 PM
This workshop will explore the ergonomic product design process and techniques used to quantify ergonomics performance. Participants will receive insight as to how a human factors practitioner interacts with a product design team throughout the various stages of product development, with an emphasis on problem solving and validation. Measurement tools and equipment such as EMG, goniometry, force sensors, pressure mapping and vibration will be demonstrated and published criteria and generally accepted thresholds and guidelines will be used as reference tools. After attending this workshop, product design practitioners will have the skills to:
- Identify the critical-to-quality (CTQ) criteria associated with an assigned product family
- Form the basis of competitive product benchmarking and the creation of concept product specifications
- Create a list of the anthropometric considerations, physiologic challenges and biomechanical considerations of a product.
